Warden's Update: Renovation Project June 2022

Help Needed

In order to be ready for the floor polishing crew, (who start on Monday), we need to clear as much of the church and hallways of furniture, as we can.

We need help this Saturday June 4 at 9:30 am to move the pews and for those who can’t lift, to clear out the closets in the hallway and move lighter things.  if you can help and/or can persuade someone else to come down to the church, that would be great.  It shouldn’t take more than 1 hour of your time.

Moving Sunday worship to the Hall

St Andrew’s ‘Café Church’, Spring/Summer 2022

Beginning on Sunday May 15th, the St Andrew’s congregation will move from worshipping in the church Sanctuary to worshipping in the church hall to give us time to prepare the Sanctuary for upcoming renovations. This change will last for up to 12 weeks until the end of July (or until the renovations to the Sanctuary are completed).

For Café Church, we will leave the hall set up as it is for coffee time and will add more chairs if that becomes necessary. We will move a lot of the Sound equipment (including the computers for Zoom) into the hall but will pack the projectors away and use TV monitors to display the service. The regular service bulletin will also be available. We will also move the small credence table (which we will use as the altar), the lectern, and the wooden music stand to the hall. The electric piano is already there. All these items will be stored in the little storage room in the hallway during the week so as to not interfere with regularly scheduled programming.

The current tentative schedule for renovation is as follows:

  • May 14 – removal of the altar platform

  • Late May – tidying and organizing all our stuff so that renovations can proceed

  • Early June – electrical work to prepare for floor polishing

  • Early to mid-June – floor polishing

  • Late June / early July – painting

  • Late June / early July – electrical work related to the lighting and AV set up

  • Early to mid-July – we move back into our newly renovated Sanctuary

Vicar, St Andrew's Church - Langley

For the next few weeks the power to the dishwasher and stove have been re-directed for the floor equipment. We will be using disposable cups for Worship Cafe or you can bring a mug from home!

Voices of Hope - Ethiopia

PWRDF continues to support the people of Ethiopia, particularly those in Tigray. Due to a blockade backed by the government, foreign aid has not reached Tigray for over two years and COVID restrictions have impacted food security and health. In April 2022, PWRDF allocated $90,000 to an ACT Alliance appeal to support those affected and will build on past work of the Lutheran World Federation, through the ACT Alliance. It will support safe water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) for those who are most vulnerable, especially people who have fled to safety. LWF Ethiopia will be working in the newly established Seba Care IDP camp in Mekelle, prioritizing WASH and protection services in “Block M.” The funds will be used to extend the pipeline that LWF is laying to the existing and new water points in Block M, benefitting approximately 1,500 people and the host community living nearby, estimated at 300,000 households.

Also, PWRDF continues to do work in helping the people of Ukraine. Visit their website at pwrdf.org.
