Jesus & Nicodemus

This Sunday, we read the story of Jesus & Nicodemus. Nicodemus was someone who knew he needed a change in his life, but he was ashamed and unsure of how to proceed. He met Jesus under the cover of darkness in order to ask his questions. The story that we read on Sunday does not give any resolution to poor Nicodemus, but the tradition has it that Nicodemus was one of those who took Jesus’ body down from the cross. Some transformation must have happened for him between his meeting with Jesus and his care for Jesus’ body after his death.

Vestry meeting

Thanks to everyone who attended and contributed to our Annual Vestry Meeting. The weather meant in-person turn-out was low, but we had a good contingent of people who joined in on Zoom. Special applause for Joy who has mastered the telephone/Zoom interface! Our budget forecast is balanced, and we have good energy for ministry heading into the rest of the year.

Repairs @

St. Andrew’s

A free repair service,

by donation to St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Langley

  • Bring your broken household items to the church office, and we will attempt a repair.

  • Our repairs have no guarantee or warrantee: We really want to slow the amount of stuff that gets chucked into our garbage. The “overflow” waste from MetroVan is shipped to Cache Creek or south to Washington at a cost of $ 150 million a year.

  • Because of their extremely small parts, we don’t usually attempt watches or cell phones

  • Because of potential loss of data, we are cautious about fixing laptop and desktop computers.

  • We do not charge for our labour. If it gets fixed, make a donation to St. Andrews.

  • We will charge for parts, if parts are needed, but we will consult you before we purchase them.

  • New replacement parts are often unavailable and we may get creative or find used parts.

  • We will inform you when a repair is beyond our skill level and try to suggest an expert to help.

These are suggested candidates for repair:

Electrical: vacuums, mixers, fans, juicers, popcorn makers, grills, coffee makers, kettles, lamps, Christmas lights, heaters, air filters, drills, saws and other tools

Electronic: radios, stereos, cd players, computers, timers, bluetooth speakers, remotes

Mechanical: items where some part is broken and needs glue, solder, or other fix to make it useable.

Heather Clarke as interviewed by Judi Georgetti

Heather Clarke is a long time valued member of the St Andrew’s family. She was born in England and emigrated to Canada with her family in 1957. Her parents settled in Langley. Heather and her brother attended school in Langley after which Heather attended BCIT where she trained as a Medical Laboratory Technologist. She met her husband at BCIT and they were married in the old St Andrew’s church by Rev. Phil Whitney. They have 3 children, and 2 grandchildren. All three of their children were baptized in St. Alban’s, Otter, by Rev. Ed Wilkin. At that time they were part of the “Four Saints” Parish.

Heather worked as a Lab Tech until her family came along and she did some retail work as well as working on her parent’s tree farm/nursery. Once the children were well on their way, Heather returned to the life of a Lab Tech, starting at Surrey Memorial Hospital and later at Peace Arch. Heather spent 5 years in Boston Massachusetts.

Her mother, although she worked full time, became very involved in St Andrew’s parish where she led the choir for 19 years, sat on Parish Council and attended numerous Bible Study groups. Apples don’t fall far from the tree. Heather became part of the junior choir, attended Sunday School, Camp Artaban, AYPA, graduating to senior choir, PC, ACW, Altar Guild, Young Mom’s Group, Property Committee, and now heads our PWRDF group on council.

“St Andrew’s is my spiritual home and my connection is deeper and stronger than I can put into words. I really feel an emptiness when I am unable to attend. So many people have come and gone during my life here and it is very nice to see some returning! I fondly remember those who have passed on and are now at peace in our Memorial Garden. Connection, Community and Communal Prayer help keep me coming back.

Just FYI, about 18 Choir Directors and/or organists and 26 different clergy have served at St Andrew’s while I have been attending.”

Thank you Heather for all that you do for our St Andrew’s Family.

Family Eucharist service

A reminder that our next Family Eucharist Service is Next Saturday, March 11, beginning at 4:30pm. Our theme this month is Lent: Prayer, Fasting & Almsgiving with special guest Bev Saumier who will talk to us about the Food Bank, how it works and how we can support it. All families are invited to bring gifts of food and toiletries which Bev will take as donations to the Sources Langley Food Bank. Click the button below to go to the webpage.

Please let me know if you or someone you know would like a clergy person to reach out to them!

With love,

Andrew
