Newsletter: We are Salt for the Earth!

Happy February to you all!

Some of you will have seen that St Andrew’s made the news on Global TV last Sunday evening. After church, I was approached by a reporter to comment on the weather and the Emergency Shelter and homelessness in Langley and around the Lower Mainland. The effect of this, in addition to just being good press for the church, is that all week long we have been receiving food, clothing and cash donations from people around the neighbourhood. It is certainly true that when a church does something that matters to the community around it, people are very supportive!

In other news…

Please consider bringing your family to our upcoming Family Eucharist service on Saturday, February 11th from 4:30 to 6:30pm. Our theme is Mardi Gras and Ash Wednesday, and there will be a fire to burn last year’s palm crosses. And pizza, of course.

We will also have a service actually on Ash Wednesday, February 22, at 7pm. We will impose ashes for people who want it and celebrate the Eucharist. The service will be about 40 minutes long.

The Annual Vestry Meeting will take place after the 10am Sunday service on February 26th. We’ll call the meeting to order at 11:30am. You are invited to come and celebrate our successes and plan for our future! There will be a Zoom option available. Click the button below for more information.

In preparation for the Vestry meeting, you are invited to watch three movie clips and wonder about a series of questions. The questions for each clip are as follows:

  1. What is happening in this clip?

  2. Where is God in this clip?

  3. What message does this clip have for St Andrew’s as we look to future ministry?

The three clips are as follows:

And finally, Heather is asking us to keep PWRDF in mind as we are wondering about our Lenten PWRDF project this year.

From the PWRDF: “In mid-June of 2022, monsoon season began in Pakistan. The rain was torrential and unrelenting, with more than 60% of the country’s annual rainfall occurring in just eight weeks. This led to flash flooding and landslides and one third of Pakistan was under water.”

PWRDF has contributed upwards of $66,000.00 toward food and flood relief through the Canadian Foodgrains Bank and the Anglican Church of Pakistan. More information can be found on a handout at the church or at the following link:

As always, I look forward to hearing from you.

With love,

Andrew
