Covid-19 Pandemic

Please see the Diocesan website for the most recent correspondence from the Archbishop regarding the Covid-19 Pandemic: https://www.vancouver.anglican.ca/

St. Andrew’s Office

The office is closed, and we are suspending the use of the building for Sunday church services, activities, groups, events and rentals. The office staff are working from home so please email standrewslangley@shaw.ca, instead of phoning for church business as the phone will only be checked occasionally.

Note:  Joanie’s work hours have changed - they are now Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 9am to 2pm.

Please continue to check in with one another over this time, especially with those who you know don't use email. If necessary, call Andrew’s cell at 778-999-9153.

A Note from Our Vicar

Hi Everybody!

Hope you are doing well in these peculiar times. All the clergy in our two parishes (St Andrew’s and St Dunstan’s) including me and David, our deacons, Helen L and Linda, and spare priests Helen T and Paul are on a steep learning curve when it comes to technology and how to communicate with you all. I hope that you are connecting with each other and helping each other through some of these challenges. And please feel free to phone or email me to let me know how you are doing. I’d love to hear from you! If you need technical support please contact Stuart or Joanie and they will do their best to help!

At this point, the Archbishop is looking at June 15 as a day when we can potentially go back into our churches, provided that we follow hygiene and distancing protocols. I know that many of you will still want to stay home even then, so we will continue to provide audio versions of the services and sermons on the website, and will attempt to share what ever it is that we do in the church building online. This may be as a livestream or as a Zoom meeting… we’ll have to get back in the church and try some things out!

Thank you to you all for your continued generosity when it come to your financial pledges. Our income statements are looking good so far, and that is because you are maintaining your commitment. Thank you.

Please know that I am praying for each and every one of you weekly, that you will be kept safe from all the dangers and troubles of these times, that you will be filled with the peace of Christ, and that you will all be vessels ready to share the good news of God’s saving power with everyone you meet. Remember that you are loved! And please do keep in touch, with me and with each other.

Love from,

Andrew

The Rev. Andrew Halladay
Vicar, St Andrew’s Church - Langley

If you wish to continue to donate to St. Andrew’s during this time, you can do so utilizing our PAD (Pre-Authorized Debit) option. Once a month, on or after the 12th, we submit to RBC our PAD file to automatically debit from your bank account. If the 12th falls on a weekend or statutory holiday, we process the file the next bank business day. To begin this process, call Carl Markwart at 604-575-3068 to provide your name and banking information. Three bank details are needed (usually taken from the bottom of a void cheque) – your bank’s transit number, bank number and your personal bank account number.

Alternatively, you can drop off your weekly envelopes through the church’s mail slot or mail your donation to St. Andrew’s 20955 Old Yale Rd, Langley City BC V3A 7P8.

There is also the option of e-transfer. You can just send it to the church’s email,  standrewslangley@shaw.ca, and it will be sent to our Treasurer.

Sources Food Bank

Our church building is closed, and our baskets remain empty. We invite people to still give money to Sources Langley Food Bank: https://sourcesfoundation.ca/give

WE ARE NOT ALL IN THE SAME BOAT

I heard that we are all in the same boat but it’s not like that.  We are in the same storm but not in the same boat. Your boat could be shipwrecked and mine might not be or the opposite.

For some, quarantine is optimal. A moment of reflection, of reconnection, easy in flip flops with a cocktail or coffee. For others, this is a desperate financial and family crisis.

For some that live alone they’re facing endless loneliness while for others it is peace, rest, and a time with their mother, father, sons and daughters.

With the $600 weekly increase in unemployment some are bringing in more money to their households than they were working.  Others are working more hours for less pay due to pay cuts or loss in sales.

Some were concerned about getting candy for Easter while others were concerned if there would be enough milk, bread, and eggs for the weekend.

Some want to go back to work because they don’t qualify for unemployment and are running out of money while others want to kill those who break the quarantine.

Some are home spending 2-3 hours a day helping their child with online schooling while others are spending 2-3 hours a day to educate their children after working a 10-12 hour day.

Some have experienced the near death of the virus, some have already lost someone to it, and some are not sure if their loved ones are going to make it. Others don’t believe this is a big deal.

Some have faith in God and expect miracles during 2020. Others say the worst is yet to come.

So, friends, we are not in the same boat. We are going through a time when our perceptions and needs are completely different. Each of us survivors will emerge in our own way from this storm.  It’s very important to see beyond what is seen at first glance not just looking but actually seeing.

We are all on different boats during this storm experiencing a very different journey.

Realize that and be kind!

Please keep checking in on each other!
